New Favourite to Replace Erik ten Hag as Manchester United Manager
Manchester United’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham at Old Trafford has put pressure on Erik ten Hag, and a new favourite has emerged to replace him as manager. The Dutchman’s side struggled to compete in the first half, with Brennan Johnson scoring on three minutes, and Dejan Kulusevski adding a second early in the second half. Despite a brief spell of chances, United’s hopes of salvaging something from the game were ended by Dominic Solanke’s close-range finish on 77 minutes.
Pressure is mounting on Ten Hag, who was given a new contract after the FA Cup win last season. But now, his assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy has emerged as the favourite to take over the role, with shortest odds of 6/4 at BetVictor. Van Nistelrooy has experience as a manager, having won two trophies with PSV in his only season in charge.
Former England manager Gareth Southgate is also in the running, with odds of 5/2 at BetVictor. Southgate was heavily linked with the role last season and is now out of work following his resignation as England manager after Euro 2024. He has been praised for his tactical acumen and ability to get the best out of his players.
The question on everyone’s mind is: who will be the next manager of Manchester United? With Ten Hag’s position under scrutiny, it’s likely that the club will make a change soon. But who will it be? Will it be Van Nistelrooy, with his experience as a manager and his knowledge of the club? Or will it be Southgate, with his tactical expertise and ability to motivate players?
