Martino to Shake Things Up for Inter Miami’s Leagues Cup Clash Against Puebla?
Inter Miami are gearing up for their Leagues Cup clash against Puebla, and boss Gerardo "Tata" Martino could be tempted to ring in some changes to his team after their 2-1 win over Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer action last week.
With Lionel Messi nursing an ankle injury, Martino has had to get creative with his lineups, and it’s likely that he’ll continue to do so in the Leagues Cup. One thing’s for sure – he’ll be looking to carry over the momentum from their MLS success into the tournament.
Here’s a possible lineup for the Herons’ trip to Mexico:
GK: Drake Callender
Callender was a hero for Miami last summer, and he’ll need to be at his best again to help his team repeat as Leagues Cup champions.
RB: Marcelo Weigandt
Weigandt kept his place at right-back after a solid display against the Fire, and will look to get down the flank and create chances for his teammates.
CB: Tomas Aviles
Aviles leads the backline for Inter Miami, and will be tasked with limiting the opportunities created by Puebla’s talented strikers.
CB: Noah Allen
Martino has used Sergio Busquets at center-back in recent matches, but could opt to give Allen minutes alongside Aviles to allow Busquets to dictate the tempo in midfield.
LB: Jordi Alba
Alba is full of confidence after scoring the winning goal against Chicago, and will be keen to make an impact at the opposite end of the pitch.
CM: Federico Redondo
Redondo has been impressive in recent weeks, and will continue to play a key role in Inter Miami’s midfield.
CM: Sergio Busquets
Busquets returns to his preferred position in midfield, and will look to control the tempo of the game from the middle of the park.
CM: Matias Rojas
Rojas has proven his versatility by playing in a more defensive position in his last outing, and will hope to make an impact from a central position.
RW: Julian Gressel
Gressel is renowned for his set-piece expertise, and will look to make an impact from the right-wing.
ST: Leo Campana
With Suarez’s status up in the air, Campana gets the nod up front, and will lead the line for Inter Miami.
LW: Robert Taylor
Taylor grabbed an assist against Chicago, and will be eager to repeat the trick against Puebla.
Martino has a tough decision on his hands, but one thing’s for sure – he’ll be looking to get his team off to a flying start in this Leagues Cup clash. Can Inter Miami repeat as champions?
