However, after a chaotic fan invasion stopped play, VAR intervened, disallowing the goal due to unsporting behavior from the celebrants. Two hours after the initial suspension, play resumed without fans in an empty stadium. Two minutes and 15 seconds later, Morales sealed the win with a third Morocco goal.
WHAT WENT WRONG FOR ARGENTINA?
Coach Javier Mascherano blasted the decision, calling the match a "circus" and adding that Argentina didn’t create enough scoring chances throughout the match. The team, including recent Copa America winners Julian Alvarez, Nicolas Otamendi, and Geronimo Rulli, seemed off-rhythm throughout. Morocco captain Soufiane Rahimi was instrumental, scoring the opener and securing the match-winner.

To add to Argentina’s frustration, Geronimo Simeone’s goal, scored in the 68th minute, had seemed destined to bring them level earlier. But alas, the evening belonged to Morocco. Morales’ penalty, followed by the disallowed equalizer, snatched defeat from the jaws of draw.
THREE-TIME OLYMPIC GOLDEN BOY SAYS…
Mascherano slammed the incident, saying: "The biggest circus I have ever seen in my life." Argentine players seemed at a loss after the final whistle, visibly upset with the way the game concluded.
TOUCH OF CHAOS IN ST. ETIENNE
Before the match suspension, chaos reigned as supporters from both teams invaded the field. Security was eventually called upon to clear the area. Moroccan fans launched objects at Argentine players as the situation went out of hand. The venue has seen a remarkable sight, with Saint-Etienne experiencing its largest fan invasion to date in the city.
WHAT NOW FOR ARGENTINA AND MOROCCO?
