Mbappé Prepared to Sue PSG Over Unpaid Bonus as Contract Saga Takes a Bitter Turn
It’s been a few weeks since Kylian Mbappé bid adieu to Paris Saint-Germain, signing a five-year deal with Real Madrid, and the contract saga is showing no signs of slowing down. Mbappé’s mother, Fayza Lamari, has revealed that the 25-year-old is prepared to take PSG to court if they fail to pay him the agreed-upon €80 million bonus plus two months of wages.
The source of the dispute dates back to last year when Mbappé informed PSG of his intention to leave, but the two parties could not come to a mutual agreement on his departure terms. It seems PSG are now attempting to recoup the money they feel Mbappé owes them by refusing to pay out his bonus.
"It is now in the hands of Kylian’s representatives," Lamari said. "But I trust PSG to get things back to normal very quickly. We just received a letter… Decisions will be made."
Mbappé’s relationship with PSG soured further when he refused to renew his contract last summer, despite PSG’s attempts to extend his stay. His mother admitted that the situation is comparable to a divorce, with both parties fighting over assets. "Sometimes, when you separate, you have to decide who gets the TV, who gets the furniture or the car… That’s where we are."
It’s understandable that PSG would want to recoup some of the money they invested in Mbappé, but this hardball approach may not be the best way to go about it. After all, the French striker is now playing for Real Madrid and has the potential to continue to dominate European football for years to come.
What’s clear is that Mbappé is a businessman who is willing to stand up for himself. His mother acknowledged that the decision to leave PSG was not an easy one, but her son has no regrets. "It hasn’t been easy, but there are no regrets, just great emotions. It has been very, very difficult for Kylian, that’s clear."
It will be interesting to see how this contract dispute plays out. One thing is certain, though: Kylian Mbappé is no longer in a rush to get anything done with PSG.
