Mbappé rejects mediation in $60M PSG pay feud

Mbappé Stands Firm Against PSG Over Unpaid Wages

Kylian Mbappé is refusing to back down in his dispute with Paris Saint-Germain over unpaid wages and bonuses. The French superstar, who joined Real Madrid this summer, is demanding €55 million from his former club.

According to Mbappé’s representatives, the player asked the French soccer league’s legal commission to take note of the non-payment of three months’ salary and the last third of a loyalty bonus. The commission recommended mediation between the parties, but Mbappé’s representatives rejected the offer, stating that a mediation would be unnecessary since the player’s payslip clearly shows the lack of payment.

PSG, however, claims that Mbappé had made "clear, repeated public and private commitments" to respect the agreement when he was sidelined ahead of the 2023-24 season. The club argues that Mbappé had stipulated that he would relinquish bonuses over his reintegration into the team.

The drama surrounding Mbappé’s departure from PSG is nothing new. The forward had been at odds with the club for some time, feeling that promises to sign key players were not kept. When he signed a new deal in 2022, he was reportedly annoyed about being paraded in front of fans holding up a jersey with 2025 on it, as the contract was until 2024 with the option for an extra year.

Mbappé’s relationship with PSG ended in a messy transfer standoff, with the player rejecting a €300 million move to Saudi team Al-Hilal and eventually joining Real Madrid on a free transfer.

This saga is a reminder that the beautiful game is just as much about business as it is about beauty. Players and clubs must navigate complex financial agreements, and sometimes tensions arise. In this case, Mbappé is standing up for his rights, and it will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds.
