Mauro Icardi Fires Back at Jose Mourinho’s Galatasaray Comments
Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce were sent packing from the Champions League this week, and it seems the Portuguese manager’s temper is getting the better of him. Galatasaray star Mauro Icardi has responded to Mourinho’s recent comments about the Turkish Super Lig side, and it’s safe to say the Argentine striker is not impressed.
Mourinho accused referees of handing favourable treatment to Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk, claiming that the technical director doesn’t see a card when he enters the pitch 4 meters, but he sees a card when he enters 1 meter. However, Icardi has hit back at the 61-year-old, saying it’s "interesting to see a coach of Mourinho’s stature talk about something so insignificant."
The Galatasaray star continued, "Everyone knows we have a rivalry with Fenerbahce. Social media is just another tool of communication. A lot has happened off the field in the past year, but we focused on the game and won the championship two years in a row. They tried to stop us, but they failed. Maybe this bothers them."
Icardi’s comments come after Mourinho’s Fenerbahce were knocked out of the Champions League by French side Lille, with the Portuguese manager stating that his team would never win the competition and would never reach the final. He also expressed his disappointment at losing the chance to play against the biggest teams in the world, but hinted that they could do well in the Europa League.
Mourinho’s comments have been met with criticism from many in the football world, with some suggesting that he is trying to deflect attention from his own team’s poor performance. Icardi’s response has only added fuel to the fire, with many fans taking to social media to express their support for the Galatasaray star.
