Messi’s Back! But Will He Start for Inter Miami CF?
Gerardo Martino, the head coach of Inter Miami CF, has confirmed that the club’s star player, Lionel Messi, will be available for selection in their upcoming matches against Atlanta United and New York City FC. However, the Argentine maestro’s level of participation remains uncertain, as Martino will decide after Tuesday’s training session whether to start him or bring him on as a substitute.
Messi made his return to action on Saturday, playing the full 105 minutes in a 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Union. The six-time Ballon d’Or winner had been out for two months due to a right ankle sprain sustained during the Copa América final. Despite his lengthy absence, Inter Miami CF has managed to stay atop the Eastern Conference table, with 62 points in 28 games.
"It’s the first 90 minutes in a long time, but it ended very well," Martino said of Messi’s performance. "He is going to travel to both games. He is available, but there are three games this week with travel included, so we have to see it day by day."
Messi’s return is a significant boost for Inter Miami CF, who will also have Luis Suárez available for selection. However, the team will have to cope with several absences, including David Martínez and Noah Allen, who both suffered injuries during Saturday’s match. Tomás Avilés and Sergio Busquets are also out due to yellow card accumulation.
With Messi back in the fold, Inter Miami CF will be looking to build on their impressive start to the season. Can they maintain their momentum without overexposing their star player?
