Messi’s International Odyssey Continues: Will We See Him in October’s World Cup Qualifiers?
Gerardo "Tata" Martino has confirmed that Lionel Messi will be available to join the Argentina national team for October’s World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia. But will we see him playing for Inter Miami before rejoining his country’s camp?
Messi has been sidelined for over two months due to a right ankle injury, which forced him to miss the September international window. However, the forward has slowly regained rhythm, playing an integral part in Inter Miami’s games, including their 3-1 victory over Philadelphia Union on September 14.
Argentina’s official squad for the October games hasn’t been announced yet, but coach Lionel Scaloni expressed hope that Messi would be available for the October fixtures. Given his incredible form, it’s crucial for Argentina to have the legendary forward back on the pitch.
Despite his individual brilliance, Martino assures us that Messi will adapt to the MLS playoffs rhythm, stating, "Leo is going to get better and better as he adds 90 minutes." Although he’s still regaining his full fitness, there’s no doubt that he’ll be at his best when the playoffs kick-off.
Inter Miami: The Shield is Within Their Grasp
Inter Miami is currently leading the Eastern Conference and Supporters’ Shield standings with 64 points from 30 games. They can clinch the shield with victories against Charlotte FC on Saturday and Columbus Crew on October 2, or by securing eight points from the last four games.
Additionally, Inter Miami is on course to break the MLS record for most points recorded in a single season, which is currently held by the New England Revolution (73 points in 2021).
The Future of American Football
Beyond the intense battle for the shield, Inter Miami’s position in the table has secured a spot in the 2025 Concacaf Champions League. As we embark on this exciting journey with the Herons, will we see Messi playing in the Champions League?
