Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag responds to Cristiano Ronaldo comments

Ten Hag Fires Back at Ronaldo’s Latest Dig

Erik ten Hag has responded to Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent jibe, saying that the Portuguese superstar is entitled to his opinion, even if it’s from afar. The Manchester United manager was speaking to reporters on Thursday, September 2, after Ronaldo’s comments on his YouTube channel with Rio Ferdinand.

Ronaldo, who left United after a falling out with Ten Hag, claimed that the club would need to rebuild everything and slammed the Dutch tactician for saying they couldn’t compete for top honors. But Ten Hag is having none of it, pointing out that Ronaldo is currently in Saudi Arabia and that everyone is entitled to their opinion.

"He said Manchester United can’t win the Premier League. No, he said that if you read the article very well," Ten Hag said. "So he’s far away in Saudi, far from Manchester. Everyone is entitled to have an opinion. It’s OK."

Pressure Mounts on Ten Hag

United have started the season with a win, but defeats to Brighton and Liverpool have added pressure on the Dutch tactician. Ten Hag, however, remains unfazed, saying that they will be judged by their position in May next year.

"We will see where we are in May. It’s very early in the season, it’s about winning trophies and being as high as possible. Do everything to win every game. We will see in May. It doesn’t impact me," he said.

Ten Hag admitted that United are in a transition period, with a lot of young players to integrate and injuries to deal with. But he’s clear that winning every game is the priority.

"Before anyone says excuses, no, we have to win every game. The team knows this," he said.

United’s Next Move

United restart their Premier League campaign after the international break with a trip to Southampton. The pressure will be on Ten Hag to get a result, but he’s confident that his team can turn things around.

"We have to integrate a lot of young players and are still dealing with injuries. But we have to win every game. The team knows this," he said.
