Manchester United Eye £48.5m Swoop for Pacey Star Nico Williams
Manchester United are reportedly gearing up to trigger the release clause of Athletic Bilbao’s winger Nico Williams, with the Spaniard’s blistering pace and impressive Euro 2024 displays catching Erik ten Hag’s eye. The 22-year-old’s release clause stands at £48.5m, a figure that the Red Devils are willing to shell out to strengthen their squad next summer.
United have had a busy summer in the transfer market, shelling out over £150m on defensive and midfield additions. However, they haven’t addressed their wide areas, with Marcus Rashford, Amad Diallo, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, and the departing Jadon Sancho providing limited options.
Antony, in particular, has struggled to make an impact since joining from Ajax, with only one start in the Carabao Cup. Sancho’s departure to Chelsea has left a void, and United may need to fill it to compete for honors.

Speaking on ITV, Keane praised the young winger, saying: "Pure quality. He has pace, you can’t coach that. When he gets one-vs-one against the full-back, he’s in all sorts of trouble."
Barcelona are also keen on securing Williams’ services, with their interest described as ‘undeniable’. However, the Catalan giants’ financial woes could prevent a deal from happening. United will hope to take advantage of Barcelona’s struggles and swoop in for the prize.
Williams would bring a new dimension to United’s attack, offering a speed and agility that their current options lack. His versatility would allow him to play on either wing, providing an option for Ten Hag to freshen up his line-up.
