Manchester United Plotting to Hijack Liverpool’s Transfer Target
The summer transfer window is heating up, and Manchester United are reportedly planning to steal Liverpool’s thunder by hijacking their deal for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
The 24/25 Premier League season kicked off this weekend, with United beating Fulham 1-0 on Friday night, while Liverpool secured a 2-0 win over Ipswich Town on Saturday. However, Liverpool are still yet to make their first signing of the summer, with Real Sociedad and Spain star Martin Zubimendi rejecting a move to Anfield last week.
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are seriously considering a deal for Mamardashvili, with a fee in excess of €30m being discussed. The Georgian goalkeeper is keen on a move to Anfield, with a loan deal being proposed.
However, Manchester United are looking to swoop in and snatch Mamardashvili from under Liverpool’s noses. In order to do so, they will need to part ways with Jadon Sancho, who has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund, and Chelsea.
Sancho has been left out of United’s squad for their opening match against Fulham, with manager Erik ten Hag citing an ear infection as the reason. However, with under two weeks to go until the transfer window shuts, Sancho’s future at Old Trafford remains uncertain.
The Mirror reports that United are willing to let Sancho go in order to secure Mamardashvili’s signature, but it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will be willing to sell their target to their bitter rivals.
