Manchester United’s Exodus Continues: Maxi Oyedele Departs to Legia Warsaw
Another day, another departure from Manchester United. The Red Devils are having a busy summer, to say the least, with an unprecedented amount of players leaving the club. The latest to bid adieu is 19-year-old midfielder Maxi Oyedele, who has completed a permanent transfer to Polish side Legia Warsaw.
The Salford-born starlet joined United’s academy at a young age and spent 12 years at the club. He rose through the ranks, becoming a key player for the under-23s and even appeared in the FA Youth Cup-winning campaign in 2022. Despite showing promising signs, Oyedele failed to break into the first team and has ultimately decided to seek new opportunities.
Take a look at this emotional goodbye post from Oyedele on his Instagram page:
"My time at Manchester United has finally come to an end… I want to say thank you to the only club I’ve ever known. Honoured to say I’ve been at the club for 12 years and had some unbelievable experiences with some amazing team-mates. Thank you to all the coaches, staff and the fans, I will never forget the memories I have made at this club. I wish everyone at Manchester United all the best as I leave ready to start the next chapter of my career. This club will always be my home and, once again, thank you."
Oyedele’s departure marks yet another talented young player leaving the club, following Willy Kambwala and Omari Forson earlier this summer. This exodus continues to raise questions about United’s future prospects and the effectiveness of manager Erik ten Hag’s tactics in developing young players.
At 90min, we’ve always said that Manchester United’s best chances of success lie in nurturing talent from within. However, Oyedele’s departure, as well as those of other promising youth players, suggests that the club might need to rethink its approach.
