Manchester United Line Up Shock Target After Luke Shaw Injury Confirmation
Luke Shaw’s injury woes have continued to plague Manchester United, and it seems the Red Devils are scrambling to find a suitable replacement. According to reports, United have identified a surprise target to cover for Shaw’s absence – former Barcelona left-back Marcos Alonso.
The 33-year-old Spaniard was released by Barcelona in the summer and has been linked with a move to Old Trafford. United are said to have discussed the possibility of signing Alonso, who has a wealth of experience playing in the Premier League with Chelsea.
However, not everyone is convinced by the link. Some fans have taken to social media to express their concerns, citing Alonso’s age and the fact that he was released by Barcelona. "Crikey, he’s 33!" one fan wrote. "They haven’t learned… maybe in a hard way," another added.
But others have been more welcoming to the possibility of Alonso joining United. "I wouldn’t mind Marcos Alonso on a free but would prefer Ferdi or Sergio Reguilon," one fan said. Another wrote, "United would be silly not to look into Marcos Alonso."
So, is Alonso the right man for the job? The stats suggest he could be a solid addition to United’s backline. During his time at Chelsea, Alonso averaged 2.5 tackles and 1.5 interceptions per game, and he also chipped in with 29 goals in six seasons.
But, as one fan pointed out, "Sign Ferdi Kadioglu. We can’t succeed with workarounds every season." United’s priority should be to sign a young, talented left-back who can grow with the team, rather than relying on a veteran player who may not have much left in the tank.
What do you think, 90min fans? Should United sign Marcos Alonso, or are there better options out there? Let us know in the comments!
