Manchester United Fans Fume as Victor Lindelof Rejects Exit Amid Wage Concerns
Manchester United fans are seething after Fabrizio Romano revealed that Victor Lindelof has no intention of leaving the club, despite being out of favor under Erik ten Hag. The Swedish defender, who joined United from Benfica in 2017 for a reported fee of £31.7million, has been struggling with injuries and has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
With his contract set to expire next summer, United fans had hoped to see Lindelof moved on before the end of the transfer window. However, Romano has confirmed that the defender is happy to see out his contract and will likely leave the club on a free transfer next year.
Lindelof’s decision to stay put has sparked outrage among United fans, who are frustrated by the defender’s decision to "milk the cow dry" and continue to earn a hefty £120,000 per week. "Another player milking the cow dry," one fan wrote on X, while another commented: "Every player wanna stick with the big paycheque."
The situation is made more complicated by the fact that United triggered a 12-month extension in Lindelof’s contract in January, in the hope of selling him this summer. However, an injury picked up during pre-season has complicated matters, leaving United with a difficult decision to make.
While Lindelof’s decision to stay at United may not be the most popular among fans, it’s clear that the defender is committed to seeing out his contract and has no desire to leave the club. United fans will have to wait until next summer to see if the defender’s situation changes, but for now, it seems that Lindelof is happy to continue earning a big salary at Old Trafford.
