Manchester United Plotting Sneaky Move to Hijack Transfer Deal
The summer transfer window has been a whirlwind of activity for Manchester United, with the Red Devils already bringing in a string of new signings. But it looks like Erik ten Hag’s side may not be done just yet, with reports suggesting they’re looking to hijack a transfer deal that could shake the very foundations of the club.
According to sources, United are eyeing a move for AC Milan-bound midfielder Youssouf Fofana, who has agreed personal terms with the Serie A giants. But, it seems, the Red Devils are willing to splash the cash to snatch him away from their Italian rivals. RMC Sport reports that Fofana has agreed a deal with Milan, but Monaco, the player’s current club, is holding out for a fee of €35m.
Fofana has been linked with both Milan and United, and it’s easy to see why. The 21-year-old French midfielder has already impressed with Monaco, and his potential for growth is vast. With his contract running until 2025, Monaco are in a strong negotiating position, but United’s willingness to break the bank could be the deciding factor.
The potential transfer would also add to the growing uncertainty surrounding United’s midfield. With the futures of Casemiro and Scott McTominay uncertain, Fofana could be the perfect solution to ten Hag’s midfield conundrum. Meanwhile, McTominay has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with clubs in the Premier League and beyond taking an interest in his services.
In a pre-season interview, ten Hag expressed his frustration with United’s lack of midfield depth, stating that the performance against Rangers was a "wake-up call" for the team. Bringing in Fofana could be just the solution to rectify that issue.
