Man United tried to ‘hijack’ Premier League transfer at the last minute but £50m star had already given his word

Manchester United’s Last-Ditch Attempt to Hijack £50m Star Falls Flat

Manchester United’s bid to snatch Amadou Onana from Aston Villa’s grasp has been thwarted, with the midfielder set to complete his move to Villa Park this weekend.

According to reports, United made a last-minute attempt to hijack Onana’s transfer, offering him a similar fee to Villa with a better financial package. However, the 22-year-old had already committed to joining Villa and was not willing to renege on his word.

Onana is set to undergo his medical exams this weekend and is expected to put pen to paper on a five-year deal with Villa. The Belgian international joins the club following the departure of Douglas Luiz to Everton, with Villa reportedly paying £45 million for Onana, plus an additional £5 million in add-ons.

Everton will also receive 10% of any future transfer involving Onana, as part of the deal. This is a significant blow to United, who had been tracking Onana’s progress for some time and were reportedly keen to bring him to Old Trafford.

The failure to sign Onana is a setback for United’s summer transfer window, which has been dominated by speculation surrounding the club’s interest in Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte. With just over a week left until the transfer window closes, United will need to quickly find alternative targets to bolster their squad.
