Shock Transfer Target Linked to Manchester City as Haaland’s Backup
Manchester City’s search for a backup striker to Erling Haaland has taken an unexpected turn with the club reportedly identifying an exciting young talent. Following the departure of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid, City are scrambling to find a reliable deputy for Haaland, and a surprise name has been thrown into the mix.
According to The Athletic, City have been tracking Orri Oskarsson, the 19-year-old FC Copenhagen striker, as a potential backup option. Despite his relatively limited experience, Oskarsson has already made a name for himself in the Danish Superliga, scoring 10 goals last season and netting five in just six games this campaign. The Icelandic international also stood out against City in the Champions League last season, and his impressive displays have caught the eye of Premier League clubs, including Manchester City.
The report claims that Oskarsson could be available for around £17 million, which would still leave City with a significant amount to play with from the £81 million fee they received from Atletico Madrid for Alvarez. However, it seems unlikely that City will pursue a deal for Oskarsson just yet, but it’s a transfer that they could revisit in the future.
Oskarsson is expected to leave Copenhagen this summer, and with Premier League clubs showing interest, City may find themselves in a bidding war. Given the player’s impressive form, it’s easy to see why Manchester City would be keen to snap him up as a backup to Haaland.
