Liverpool Could Benefit from Unlikely Transfer Boost as Top-Six Rival Spurs Eye Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke
The wait for Liverpool’s first signing of the summer transfer window is almost over, but it seems like the Reds might just get a welcome financial boost courtesy of their top-six rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.
With a lack of activity in the transfer market thus far, Liverpool fans are growing anxious about the lack of reinforcements to bolster their squad. However, a surprising development could see the Reds receive a tidy sum courtesy of Spurs’ pursuit of Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke.
The 26-year-old had a stellar season for the Cherries, netting 19 goals and providing three assists. His impressive form has attracted attention from several top clubs in England and Europe. And, according to reports, Tottenham are keen on signing him up.
Now, here’s the twist: Solanke signed a new contract with Bournemouth last year, but it contains a £65 million release clause. And, believe it or not, this clause can only be activated by clubs competing in Europe – a criterion that Spurs meet.
If Spurs decide to snap up Solanke, Liverpool will receive a fee, courtesy of a sell-on clause that was included in their £19m deal for the striker back in 2019. Should Bournemouth sell Solanke for £65m, Liverpool will be entitled to 20% of the profit made on the transfer, which would amount to £9m before add-ons are factored in.
It’s worth noting that Liverpool did have a buy-back clause, but that has since expired.
This unexpected turn of events could see Liverpool receive a much-needed injection of funds to bolster their squad. As the transfer window approaches its midpoint, the Reds will be looking to strengthen their squad to challenge for the Premier League title.
Will Solanke make the move to Spurs, and if so, will Liverpool benefit from the deal? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure – the transfer window is always full of surprises.
