Liverpool’s Champions League Squad: A Surprise Inclusion and the Return of the Reds to the Top Table
After a year in the Europa League, Liverpool is back in the Champions League, and the Reds have submitted their squad to UEFA for the new 36-team format. The team has announced a surprise inclusion, with 17-year-old centre-back Amara Nallo making the cut. Nallo has been touted as one of the hottest young prospects in the youth ranks, and his selection is a testament to Liverpool’s faith in his ability.
The centre-back joined Liverpool from West Ham last year and has made an impressive start to his senior career. He was named as a substitute in two games last term and made his first appearance at senior level in pre-season against Arsenal. While he faces stiff competition from the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Jarell Quansah, and Joe Gomez, Nallo’s selection suggests that the club is willing to give him a chance to develop.
Liverpool’s Champions League squad also includes a number of other young talents, including Trey Nyoni, who has been drafted into the squad despite being eligible for the B list. Nyoni, along with Nallo, would not have been eligible for the B list as they came from other clubs. However, manager Arne Slot has given the duo the nod, indicating his willingness to give young players a chance to prove themselves.
The Reds will take on Bologna, Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid, Lille, AC Milan, RB Leipzig, Girona, and PSV Eindhoven in the group stages of the Champions League. Liverpool will play Bologna, Leverkusen, Real, and Lille at Anfield, with the rest of their fixtures taking place away from home.
