Liverpool ready to agree new contract with key forward

Liverpool plan to offer a new contract to a key part of their attacking trio, Roberto Firmino, this season.

That’s according to soccer insiderwho reveal talks will begin before the summer to extend the 31-year-old future player’s current contract, which currently expires in June 2023.

Of course, much of the attention on new contracts has surrounded Mo Salah and, to a lesser extent, Sadio Mane in recent months, with all three of Liverpool’s Champions League-winning strikers out of contract in 18 months.

It is believed that a new deal for the Brazilian would prove significantly less difficult to accept than Salah’s threatens to be, with the Egyptian seemingly increasing in value with every performance this season and Liverpool currently unwilling to meet strong demands. demands of his star.

Firmino’s new role at Liverpool

It’s been a periphery season for Firmino so far. A combination of injuries and Diogo Jota’s brilliant form has kept him out of the starting lineup most of the time, as the talented Brazilian has played just 662 minutes in the Premier League so far this campaign.

The addition of Luis Diaz will not affect him directly, with the Colombian generally operating in the wide areas. However, he will give Klopp more options at these positions, where Jota was an option previously, and could see more of Firmino’s playing time freed up.

A Liverpool icon, Firmino’s role in the team hasn’t changed much, and scoring goals is still not his primary goal in Klopp’s system. However, the club has found in Jota a man to play the role of Firmino and also score goals.

Even with a new contract, Firmino could be forced to play a more supporting role in the coming seasons.
