Liverpool’s Unlikely Hero: The Player Who Wanted to Quit May Get a Shock Start Against Bournemouth
Arne Slot’s arrival at Liverpool has already sparked a lot of excitement, and it seems like he’s not done making waves just yet. According to reports, one player who wanted to leave the club after Slot’s appointment could be handed a shock start against Bournemouth on Saturday.
That player is none other than Caoimhin Kelleher, who has been linked with a move away from Anfield in recent months. Kelleher has made 47 appearances for Liverpool, but it seems like he’s been relegated to the bench under Slot’s new regime. However, with Alisson Becker struggling with an injury, Kelleher could be given a chance to prove himself against the Cherries.
Speaking recently, Kelleher admitted that he wants to leave Liverpool and become a number one goalkeeper. "I made it clear in the last few years that I want to go somewhere and be a number one. The club has made that decision to get a goalkeeper (Mamardashvili) which makes it look like they’ve made a decision to go another direction," he said.
Despite Kelleher’s desire to leave, it seems like Slot is open to giving him a chance. "Kelleher said he wants to leave? I would be worried if a player came out and said he loved it on the bench and wants to stay there for the rest of his life!" Slot said recently.
This could be a massive opportunity for Kelleher to prove himself and force his way back into Slot’s plans. With Alisson’s injury, Kelleher could be the first-choice goalkeeper for Liverpool, at least in the short term.
So, what do you think? Should Kelleher be given a chance to start against Bournemouth, or is it too little, too late? Let us know in the comments below.
