Liverpool Fans Left Fuming as Another Transfer Target Slips Through the Net
The Reds have been dealt another devastating blow in the transfer market, with reports emerging that they’ve failed to secure a deal for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. This latest development has left fans furious, and many are directing their anger at the club’s sporting director Richard Hughes.
The news comes just days after Liverpool’s hopes of signing Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi were dashed when the 25-year-old decided to stay in Spain. The Reds had identified Zubimendi as their key target, but the Spaniard ultimately chose to remain with his current club.
The way in which release clauses work in Spanish football meant that the entire move hinged on whether or not Zubimendi actually wanted to move to Anfield. Similarly, with Mamardashvili, the deal was dependent on Liverpool meeting Valencia’s valuation of the player.
According to reports, the Reds were prepared to pay a loan fee to Valencia to sign the goalkeeper, who would then be a permanent Liverpool player for two seasons before moving to Anfield. However, it appears that the club has failed to meet the selling club’s demands, and the transfer is now off.
As a result, Liverpool fans are left feeling frustrated and disappointed. One fan took to social media to say: "Can we have a press conference for Richard Hughes instead of Slot? He needs to be answering the questions at the moment."
Another fan echoed that view, saying: "If Liverpool have been making it clear that Arne Slot is ‘head coach’ and not ‘the manager’, why is he the one answering questions about the lack of signings?"
A third fan added: "Arne Slot, as the coach, did his job to prepare the team for the new season. Richard Hughes/Michael Edwards did not do their job to strengthen the squad and back the coach for the new season."
As the transfer window draws to a close, Liverpool fans are left wondering what the future holds for the club. Will they be able to strengthen their squad in time for the new season, or will they be left to regret their failure to sign key targets?
