Liverpool Fans Slam Andrew Robertson’s Performance in Season Opener Against Ipswich Town
It’s been a disappointing start to the season for Liverpool, and their fans are already sounding the alarm over one player’s performance. In the Reds’ 0-0 draw against Ipswich Town, Andrew Robertson failed to impress, and the internet is not happy.
The left-back was a surprise inclusion in Arne Slot’s starting lineup, considering he played just 61 minutes in preseason. And it’s not hard to see why the fans are upset. Robertson struggled throughout the match, failing to make an impact and leaving many wondering if he’s still good enough for the Premier League.
"I’m already sick of Robertson," tweeted @ShaunlfcT. "He isn’t even championship standard anymore. His performances have been a disgrace for ages now." Other fans were equally critical, with @ahmedIfc writing, "The one benefit of Robertson starting right now is that Slot will see first-hand that he’s not good enough anymore."
But not all the blame can be placed on Robertson. Many fans are questioning Slot’s decision to start him, given his limited preseason minutes. "Andy Robertson has been awful in these opening minutes, not sure if he’s lacking fitness," tweeted @Rebekkarnold.
Robertson’s lack of fitness is an understandable concern, given his heavy workload over the summer. He captained Scotland throughout their 2024 Euros campaign, playing almost 400 minutes of football. And it seems that his lack of rest and recovery time may have taken a toll on his performance.
For now, it remains to be seen whether Robertson will start the next match or be dropped in favor of Kostas Tsimikas. But one thing is for sure – the fans are expecting more from their left-back.
