Liverpool Fans Divided Over Arne Slot’s Decision to Deploy Dominik Szoboszlai in Deeper Role
Liverpool’s pre-season friendly against Arsenal has sparked debate among fans, with one decision in particular causing a stir. Arne Slot’s decision to deploy Dominik Szoboszlai in a deeper role, dropping Wataru Endo to the bench, has left fans divided.
Szoboszlai was taken off in the 72nd minute, replaced by Stefan Bajcetic, but not before he impressed in his new role. He won the most tackles on the pitch, completing 94% of his passes. His defensive prowess has led some to suggest he could be a genuine option for the defensive midfield role.
Fans were quick to take to social media to share their thoughts on the decision. Some, like one fan, argued that Szoboszlai looked "REALLY good at #6….Really, really, really natural…", while another tweeted, "Szoboszlai as a no.6?? we try everything in this club but not to spend money."
Others were less convinced, with one fan arguing that it was a "waste of his attacking qualities" to play him deeper, while another suggested that the team needs a dedicated defensive midfielder.
According to journalist Bence Bocsak, Szoboszlai could be a viable option for the defensive midfield role, having played there during his youth career. He even won the most tackles on the pitch against Arsenal, completing 94% of his passes.
The debate is ongoing, but one thing is clear – Szoboszlai’s versatility and skill have made him a valuable asset to the team.
