Messi’s Miami Comeback: When Can We Expect the Argentine Ace to Return?
Lionel Messi has taken a significant step towards recovery, returning to group training with Inter Miami in a limited capacity on Wednesday. The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has been sidelined for almost six weeks after spraining his right ankle during the Copa America final.
While there’s no confirmation on when Messi will return to action, Inter Miami goalkeeper Drake Callender believes the Argentine ace is on the right track. "To see him on the field is great," Callender said. "He’s been getting treatment every single day, training every single day. He’s dealt with things before. He’s been there, done that and he’s still doing it at the highest level."
Coach Tata Martino revealed that Messi is still without medical clearance to play, but there are specific drills designed to allow him a certain level of participation in training. Martino also emphasized that there’s no change to the timetable, with Messi expected to return to action sometime before the end of the regular season on October 19 against the New England Revolution.
Messi’s absence has been felt by Inter Miami, who boast the best record in Major League Soccer so far this season. The 37-year-old has 12 goals and 13 assists in 12 games, and his return would be a massive boost for the team. With Inter Miami set to visit Chicago this Saturday and face Philadelphia on September 14, fans are eagerly awaiting news on Messi’s availability.
While there’s no definitive answer on when Messi will return, it’s clear that Inter Miami are taking a cautious approach to his rehabilitation. With two more weeks to continue his rehab, Messi’s next move will be crucial in determining his comeback timeline.
