The Argentina National Football Team led by Lionel Messi, will visit India for an international exhibition match in October 2025, announced on Wednesday by the Argentina Football Association (AFA). The journey comes as part of Argentina’s global outreach efforts before the final matches 2026 World Cup qualifications. AFA President Claudio Fabian Tapia took initiative as a milestone in Argentina’s international development. “A new milestone has been achieved for the expansion of our team, opening new opportunities in both India and Singapore. We are ready to strengthen our presence in many areas because we progress in 2025 and 2026,” Tapia said.
Association is actively working on the creation of its presence in India from 2021, which recognizes the passion of the country for football. AFA’s Chief Commercial and Marketing Officer, Leandro Peterson emphasized that the initiative aligns with its long -term strategy of expansion in major areas globally.
“This is a new step in the global expansion of the AFA. Since 2021, we have identified important opportunities in India and have created a strong relationship with the local football community. Our goal is to strengthen these relationships, while Argentina Football brings the best to fans,” said Peterson.
Messi first visited India in 2011 when Argentina played the World Cup qualifier against Venezuela in Kolkata. Argentina won the match 1-0 at the Salt Lake Stadium.
