Messi Joins Elite Club After Leading Argentina to World Cup Glory
Lionel Messi has etched his name into the history books once again, joining an exclusive club of just nine players who have achieved the ‘Triple Crown’ of winning the World Cup, the Champions League, and the Ballon d’Or. The Argentine maestro inspired his country to World Cup glory in Qatar, and his impressive performance earned him a spot alongside some of the greatest players of all time.
The ‘Triple Crown’ club is a testament to a player’s incredible talent, dedication, and consistency at the highest level. Messi, an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, completed the set by winning the Champions League and the Ballon d’Or ahead of the 2022 tournament, and then lifting the World Cup trophy.
Brazil legend Kaka, a fellow member of the club, welcomed Messi with a heartfelt message on Instagram. "Welcome to the club, Leo Messi," he wrote, accompanied by a photo of the Argentine icon.
So, who else is part of this exclusive club? Sir Bobby Charlton, a Manchester United legend, won the World Cup with England in 1966, the 1968 European Cup with United, and the 1966 Ballon d’Or. German great Franz Beckenbauer won the World Cup in 1974, while also claiming three European Cups with Bayern Munich and the Ballon d’Or in 1972 and 1976.
Another German legend, Gerd Muller, won the World Cup in 1974, two European Cups, and the Ballon d’Or in 1970. Paolo Rossi, the only Italian representative, achieved the ‘Triple Crown’ by winning the 1982 World Cup, the 1985 European Cup, and the Ballon d’Or in 1982.
Zinedine Zidane, a French icon, won the 1998 World Cup, the 2002 Champions League, and the Ballon d’Or in 1998. Finally, Brazilian trio Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, and Kaka won the 2002 World Cup, multiple Champions League titles, and Ballon d’Or awards between them.
