La Liga president drops huge claim on what he’s heard regarding Man City’s FFP charges

La Liga President Javier Tebas Makes Bombshell Claim on Manchester City’s FFP Charges

The saga surrounding Manchester City’s financial fair play (FFP) charges has taken another dramatic turn, with La Liga president Javier Tebas dropping a massive claim about what he’s heard regarding the case.

The Premier League has finally set a hearing date for City’s 115 charges, which will begin on Monday. The charges relate to a nine-season period between 2009 and 2018 and include allegations of inaccurate financial reporting, failing to provide accurate details for player and manager payments, and breaching profit and sustainability rules.

City have denied all charges, claiming they have "irrefutable evidence" to prove their innocence. The London Evening Standard reported that a points deduction would be the most likely punishment if City are found guilty, although relegation is still a possibility.

Now, Tebas has spoken out, claiming that several Premier League clubs understand that City should be sanctioned. In an interview with Goal, he said: "I have spoken with many Premier League clubs, and most of them understand that City should be sanctioned. They were once acquitted by the CAS [Court of Arbitration for Sport] for a formal matter."

This isn’t the first time Tebas has spoken out about City’s case. In March 2023, he claimed that the Premier League had lost credibility by not dealing with the situation earlier. He also stated that PSG and Manchester City were sanctioned by UEFA, and City were banned from European competition, only for the ban to be lifted by CAS.

Tebas’ comments come as City prepare to face the music over their FFP charges. The hearing is expected to be a long and complex process, with both parties having the opportunity to appeal the verdict if necessary.
