Mbappé to Become Youngest Active Player-Owner in European Football
In a stunning move, Kylian Mbappé is set to become the majority owner of French second division club Stade Malherbe de Caen, a source close to the deal has confirmed to 90min. The 25-year-old Real Madrid star is expected to invest around €15 million to acquire 80% of the club’s capital, making him the youngest active player to own a professional European football club.
Mbappé’s takeover should be announced imminently, with the source revealing that he will replace American investment fund Oaktree, which has owned 80% of the club’s shares since 2020. The remaining 20% of the capital is held by Pierre Antoine Capton, the current president of the club’s supervisory board.
The newly minted Real Madrid player has a strong connection with Caen, having almost signed for the club when he was just 13 years old. His relationship with Caen’s new president, Ziad Hammoud, a close friend of Mbappé’s, will undoubtedly play a significant role in shaping the club’s future.
As Mbappé begins his new role as club owner, the focus will shift to how he plans to stabilize the team and lead them back to the top flight. With a strong team behind him, Mbappé has the potential to turn Caen into a force to be reckoned with in Ligue 2.
Caen’s Ligue 2 season kicks off on August 17 against Paris FC, just three days after Mbappé makes his debut for Real Madrid in the European Super Cup against Atalanta.
