A Fresh Injury Concern for Arsenal’s Jurrien Timber Ahead of Bayer Leverkusen Clash
Arsenal fans were dealt a blow on Tuesday as reports emerged that star defender Jurrien Timber is set to miss the Gunners’ pre-season friendly against Bayer Leverkusen due to a fresh injury concern.
The 22-year-old had made a promising start to his Arsenal career, featuring in two of the team’s opening three pre-season friendlies before missing the clash against Liverpool last week. However, The Times reporter Gary Jacob has now confirmed that Timber is suffering from a "load-bearing" injury, which is not related to his previous knee injury.
The news will come as a setback for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who was counting on Timber to play a key role in the team’s defense this season. The Gunners’ first Premier League fixture is next weekend against Wolves, and it remains to be seen whether Timber will be fit to play.
Speaking in an interview with Arsenal’s official website in February, Timber opened up about his long recovery from his knee injury and how it has made him "stronger" ahead of the new season. "Of course, at some points it’s been difficult," he said. "Because you’re not playing, and that’s the thing you love to do. I use that as motivation during my recovery. I see the boys a lot, at the training ground but also at the games, and that’s been good for me too."
Timber’s injury setback is a blow to Arsenal’s hopes of building a strong defense ahead of the new season. The Gunners have already lost several key players this summer, including William Saliba and Cedric Soares, and Timber’s absence will put further pressure on the team’s backline.
Arsenal fans will be hoping that Timber’s injury is not too serious and that he will be back in action soon. In the meantime, the team will have to rely on other players to fill the void left by his absence.
