Klopp on the Radar: German FA Sporting Director Puts Liverpool Legend at Top of Managerial Wish List
In a surprising turn of events, German national team sporting director Rudi Voller has revealed that Liverpool legend Jurgen Klopp is his top target to replace current manager Julian Nagelsmann, should he decide to leave the role. This comes as a surprise, given that Nagelsmann has a contract until the 2026 World Cup and no official announcement has been made about extending his deal beyond that.
Voller, speaking to ZDF’s Aktuelle Sportstudio, praised Nagelsmann’s reputation and achievements, stating that if he were to leave the national team, Klopp would be his top choice. "Klopp? I don’t even know what Jürgen wants to do. But if Julian Nagelsmann were to decide at some point that he would rather coach a top club in Europe or Germany again – of course, there’s no way around Jürgen Klopp if he wants to," Voller said.
This isn’t the first time Klopp has been linked to the German national team job. In the past, he has clarified that he "cannot" take the role due to his commitment to Liverpool, but not that he doesn’t want to. "I didn’t say that I didn’t WANT to become a national coach, but that I CANNOT,. That’s a huge difference," Klopp said in a previous interview.
Klopp’s commitment to Liverpool is undeniable, having spent six years at the club and building a strong relationship with the team. However, with his current sabbatical from football, it’s unclear whether his priorities will change in the near future.
Will Klopp be tempted by the prospect of managing the German national team? Only time will tell. In the meantime, it’s fascinating to see the interest from the German FA in securing the services of one of the world’s top managers.
