Jamie Carragher Reveals the ‘Special Talent’ He Wishes Liverpool Had Signed This Summer

Liverpool’s summer transfer window may have been relatively quiet, but former Reds defender Jamie Carragher has revealed the one player he wishes the club had signed instead of their Premier League rivals.

In his predictions for the season on Monday Night Football, Carragher named Chelsea’s Pedro Neto as the player he would have loved to see in a Liverpool shirt. The 24-year-old Portuguese winger joined the Blues for a reported fee of £51m after five years at Wolves, where he played 111 times in the Premier League, scoring 11 goals and providing 19 assists.

Carragher’s admiration for Neto stems from his pace, quality on the ball, and ability to score goals. "The reason I’ve chosen him is because I think, but for injuries, I think this is a player that could play for the best teams in the world – I really do believe that," he said on MNF.

"If Chelsea could keep him fit, I think he’s a special talent and he’s a player that I love to watch, and I actually get down a little bit when I hear he’s injured again."

Neto came off the bench to make his debut for Chelsea in their opening-day defeat to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. While Liverpool have yet to make a signing under new manager Arne Slot, Carragher’s opinion highlights the caliber of player the Reds could have added to their squad this summer.
