Jamie Carragher breaks silence on player who’s been ‘very poor’ all season after watching Tottenham vs Arsenal

Carragher Slams Spurs Star’s "Very Poor" Season

Jamie Carragher has been left underwhelmed by Tottenham defender Cristian Romero’s performance in the north London derby against Arsenal, branding his start to the season as "very poor".

The 23-year-old Argentine centre-back has struggled to find his footing in the Premier League, and Carragher’s scathing assessment won’t have gone unnoticed by Spurs fans. Romero, who played every minute of Argentina’s six games in the Copa America during the summer, has also faced criticism for his lack of consistency in the Premier League.

Taking to Twitter during the match, Carragher tweeted: "Romero’s start to the season has been very poor!"

The powerful centre-back did play every minute for Spurs this term, but he struggled to make an impact against Arsenal, who secured a 1-0 win thanks to Gabriel Magalhaes’ 68th-minute header. Romero was also sent forward in the dying minutes as Spurs pushed for an equaliser, but it was too little, too late.

According to TBR Football, Spurs have entered negotiations over a new contract for Romero, which could include a significant pay rise. However, the player has ruled out joining another club, stating that he wants to win a title with Spurs this season.

In an interview with Argentinian outlet ESPN F90, Romero said: "I always strive to play at my best. I have a lot of respect for Tottenham. They’ve always given me a lot of support here, so I like playing here. I don’t think about other clubs or their possibilities. I know there’s a lot of talk about a possible move, but I’m calm."

Romero’s contract talks are ongoing, but it’s clear that the player is committed to his current club. With his best years still ahead of him, it will be interesting to see how his form improves in the second half of the season.
