Ivan Toney Tipped to Join Manchester United in Late Summer Transfer

Manchester United are reportedly in the running to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney, despite the 28-year-old being close to a move to Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli. According to BBC pundit Chris Sutton, Toney would be an excellent asset for the Red Devils, offering a new attacking option to Erik ten Hag’s squad.
Toney was left out of Brentford’s matchday squad for their 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday, sparking speculation about his future. Although Al Ahli are believed to be in talks to sign the striker, those discussions are yet to reach an advanced stage.
The former Brentford player has been linked with moves to Arsenal and Chelsea since his eight-month ban for breaches of FA betting rules expired in January. However, Sutton believes that Manchester United would be the perfect fit for Toney, citing his impressive form and the potential for him to thrive in the Premier League.
"I don’t see any downside to Ivan Toney signing for Manchester United," Sutton said. "He’s now proven, over a number of seasons, that he’s a well-rounded player and more than a handful for opposition defenders in the Premier League. When you factor in the injury to Rasmus Hojlund, which is a big blow for United, then he would be a really good asset for them."
Hojlund suffered a hamstring injury during a pre-season friendly against Arsenal, and his return date is unclear. United signed forward Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna this summer, who made his competitive league debut with the winning goal against Fulham.
Toney’s potential move to Manchester United would provide much-needed squad depth for the club, which has been plagued by injuries to key players. With Toney’s proven Premier League form and his ability to thrive in a new environment, the Red Devils could be wise to make a move for the striker.
