Ivan Toney’s Premier League Showstopper: Why He Won’t Sign a New Deal at Brentford

Ivan Toney is reportedly holding out for one club this summer after telling Brentford he won’t sign a new deal.
The 28-year-old’s contract is set to expire next summer, and negotiations between club and player have so far proven fruitless. According to talkSPORT, Toney is hoping that Tottenham Hotspur come forward with an offer, with North London being his preferred destination.
Toney has been a revelation for Brentford since making the switch from Peterborough in 2020. He’s bagged 72 goals in 141 appearances and has been instrumental in the Bees’ top-flight survival.
Before his eight-month ban due to FA betting rules, Toney was in scintillating form, netting 20+ goals in consecutive seasons. Though he only managed four league goals post-suspension, he turned it on for England during their Euro 2024 campaign, including the clinching penalty against Switzerland in a shootout win.
Arsenal, however, have cooled their interest in Toney and are instead targeting Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori. Other Premier League outfits and Saudi Arabian clubs could potentially poach the striker this summer, but if a deal isn’t struck, Toney is likely to be a free agent in 2025.
