Gundogan Reacts to Osimhen’s Proposed Galatasaray Move: "Wow… Crazy!"
Ilkay Gundogan, the Manchester City midfielder, has given his reaction to the news that Victor Osimhen is on the verge of joining Galatasaray on a season-long loan. The Nigerian forward has been a target for several clubs this summer, including Chelsea and Al-Ahli, but it seems that the Super Lig champions have won the race for his signature.
Gundogan, who has Turkish roots, reacted to the news on Instagram, posting a shocked emoji alongside a simple "Wow… crazy!" The midfielder’s reaction is not surprising, given his family ties to the Turkish football scene. Speaking to The Players Tribune in 2021, Gundogan revealed that his family would always support Turkish teams, with his uncle Ilhan breaking down in tears when Galatasaray won the UEFA Cup in 2000.
The news of Osimhen’s proposed move to Galatasaray comes as a surprise to many, given that the Nigerian forward was linked with a number of other clubs this summer. Napoli, his current club, will extend his contract by a year until 2027 in order to protect his value, but they intend on selling him in 2025.
Galatasaray have confirmed their interest in Osimhen, and negotiations are ongoing with Napoli regarding the transfer. The Turkish club will reportedly pay a loan fee of €5 million, with an option to buy the player at the end of the season.
Osimhen’s agent has revealed that the player has asked for a break clause in his contract, which would allow him to leave the club if a specific set of clubs, including 10 unnamed teams, submit an offer in January. The player has also asked Napoli to reduce his release clause from €130 million to €75 million.
