Konate Left Fuming After Missing Out on Man of the Match Award
Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate was left scratching his head after being overlooked for the Man of the Match award in their 2-1 win over Wolves. The French center-back scored the opener and was instrumental in the Reds’ victory, but Ryan Gravenberch stole the spotlight with his impressive performance.
When asked about the award, Konate couldn’t hide his frustration, saying: "Sky Sports, who decides who is the Man of the Match? How is this possible?!" He even took a dig at Gary Neville, who chose Gravenberch as the winner. "Maybe he forgot the moment we conceded a goal!" Konate joked.
However, Liverpool boss Arne Slot downplayed the situation, saying: "Maybe that was the reason we conceded, that he wasn’t there in the moment, because I have to say it was at least avoidable." Slot’s comment suggests that Konate’s absence from the penalty area might have contributed to Wolves’ goal.
Liverpool’s impressive start to the season has seen them rise to the top of the Premier League table. Their 4-1 win over Wolves was their fourth consecutive victory in all competitions. Konate’s performance has been a significant factor in their success, with the defender registering three goal involvements in as many games.
Despite their strong start, Slot knows that Liverpool still have a lot to prove. "We still have to prove that when we come across Arsenal, Newcastle, Chelsea, and Aston Villa if we can then still be up there with Champions League games included as well," he said.
As Liverpool look to maintain their momentum, Konate will be eager to make up for missing out on the Man of the Match award. Follow us on all social media platforms for more updates and analysis on the Reds’ campaign.
