Ten Hag Hits Back at Ronaldo’s Scathing Criticism
Erik ten Hag has finally responded to Cristiano Ronaldo’s explosive interview, where the Portuguese superstar claimed that he "does not respect" the Manchester United manager.
During Friday’s press conference ahead of United’s trip to St Mary’s to face Southampton, Ten Hag calmly dismissed Ronaldo’s criticism, stating, "He said Manchester United can’t win it? No, he said it. He is far away in Saudi, far away from Manchester. Everyone can have and is entitled to have an opinion, it is okay."
It’s no secret that Ten Hag and Ronaldo didn’t exactly see eye-to-eye during the latter’s second stint at Old Trafford. The 39-year-old left the club midway through his second season in 2022, reportedly falling out with the manager.
Since making the move to the Saudi Pro League to join Al-Nassr, Ronaldo has found some of his best form, netting 44 goals in 45 games last season. He’s still committed to achieving success on the international stage with Portugal, but it seems he’s not concerned about what Ten Hag or anyone else thinks about his future in football.
Meanwhile, Manchester United will hope to improve on their sluggish start to the 2024/25 campaign when they face Southampton on Saturday. After taking just three points from their first three fixtures, the Red Devils will be looking to bounce back and make a statement against a Saints side that has had a decent start to the season.
Will United’s squad be able to deliver a much-needed win under Ten Hag’s guidance? Only time will tell.
