As someone with naturally dry skin, I usually prefer the thickness of a cream to quench my parched skin. But facial oils they can be just as hydrating and powerful in your beauty regimen, especially if they contain a rose ingredient. Yes, roses aren’t just for whimsical scattering on bedspreads (do people really do that?), they also have a ton of antioxidants and vitamins that can help improve overall skin health. Case in point: the Heritage Store Rose Oil Nourishing Treat you may have seen at your local Whole Foods.
I stumbled upon this product after my skin literally glowed from using the Heritage Store Rose Water Facial Treatmentt, and I had to add more of the brand to my skincare cabinet. But this one is even more of a game changer. The solution is an elixir of different oils designed to hydrate, brighten and smooth the texture of your skin, even reducing the appearance of fine lines. It does this using two key ingredients: rosehip oil and squalane.

FYI, rosehip oil is something of a jack of all trades as it can address a lot of skincare concerns. “It can do wonderful things for your skin, from firming and tightening your complexion to fading dark spots and scars,” herbalist and holistic wellness expert Olivia Clementine previously said. He said Good+Good. Part of the reason is that it’s packed with vitamin C Y Vitamin E, two ingredients that help protect against environmental stressors and free radical damage that can age our skin. In fact, one study showed that the combination of the two vitamins protects the skin from long-term sun damage.
Also, this solution has a ton of squalane. That is the derived form of squalene, which is a lipid that occurs naturally in our bodies for hydration. Unfortunately, the amount of squalene we produce decreases with age (wow!). But squalane is the more stable of the two and has the same moisturizing and soothing effect.
I’m usually hesitant to introduce a new product to my skincare routine because I don’t want to trigger an acne breakout. Also, oil and pores sometimes don’t work very well. But since my skin loved the Heritage Store rosewater spray, I decided to give this treatment a try. As a moisturizer, it’s pretty close to perfect. I was impressed with how quickly the oil absorbed into my skin. It’s not that thick, so for those worried about potentially clogged pores, they’re clean here, IMO. My dry skin soaked it up and I have yet to experience any irritation or breakouts from using it in the last two months.
Overall, it’s not a greasy formula and it’s super breathable. You can apply more than once a day and combine it with your other skincare products if needed. Of course, all skin is different, but based on my own experience, I’d say this formula is a safe bet for layering. Not to mention that the hydration lasts for hours. For example, while some formulas absorb immediately into skin and leave it parched minutes later, this one leaves skin super moist for over 12 hours (at least it did for me).
The biggest selling point (and something I wasn’t expecting) was how smooth and shiny the formula made my skin feel. For the past few months, I’ve applied a little to my face and neck at night, followed by a layer of Aquaphor. That’s it. Each time I woke up with a much more balanced complexion. Even some of the fine lines and wrinkles around my eyes have become less noticeable due to the immediate increase in flexibility. Overall, the rose oil treatment softened my skin and kept it well hydrated throughout the day and night. This helped my skin look much healthier and more radiant overall.
But don’t just take my word for it. One reviewer also praised the oil’s skin-softening powers. “I love rose oil,” they enthused. “I have been using it twice a day for months and I notice a big difference in my face and neck softness, smoothness, reduction of deep vertical lines between my eyebrows and wrinkles around my eyes. The soft scent of roses is lovely and uplifting.”
Another reviewer echoed a similar sentiment, adding that it pairs well with a moisturizer. “I love this nourishing, but not greasy face oil. It absorbs quickly into my skin and provides long-lasting hydration throughout the day,” they wrote. “It is so relaxing to massage it into the skin and use it with my face roller or facial gua sha facial massager. At night I put it under my moisturizer, but in the morning I sometimes use it on its own. LOVE the fresh, modern scent of roses.”
