Ronaldo’s Diss at Ten Hag Stings, But Can He Help Manchester United Turn Their Season Around?
Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure to Al Nassr in 2023 marked the end of a tumultuous tenure at Manchester United, culminating in a public fall-out with manager Erik Ten Hag. The feud is far from over, as Ronaldo recently took another swing at his former boss. But can Manchester United put their differences aside and rediscover their winning ways?
Ronaldo, known for his unwavering confidence, told Rio Ferdinand’s podcast that Ten Hag’s comments about the club’s chances of winning the Premier League and Champions League were "far away" from reality. He shot back, "The coach, they say they cannot compete to win the league and Champions League. [As] Manchester United coach, you cannot say that you’re not going to fight to win the league or Champions League. You have to be, to mentally say, listen, maybe we don’t have that potential, but I cannot say that. We’re going to try."
Ten Hag, however, remained unphased. In a response that felt like a gentle rebuke, he said, "He’s far away in Saudi, far away from Manchester. Everyone can have an opinion." Ouch!
The reality is, Manchester United are currently mired in a crisis, sitting 14th in the Premier League standings. Southampton, their next opponent, are second from bottom and still searching for their first win of the season. The pressure is building, and Ten Hag must find a way to ignite his team’s spark before it’s too late.
Ronaldo’s accusations of betrayal and attempts to force him out of Old Trafford in 2022 still linger, and many fans are left wondering whether the Portuguese superstar would still be a valuable asset in the current squad.
