Harry Kane Breaks Silence After Spain Defeat: "Heartbroken"
The Three Lions fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Spain in the European Championship final, and in the process, became the first side in history to lose successive Euro finals. The defeat means that England’s wait for a second major honour will go into its 60th year.
Harry Kane, the England skipper, has finally broken his silence on social media, revealing his "heartbreak" at the defeat. Kane took to Instagram to share his thoughts, saying: "Heartbroken we couldn’t achieve what we worked so hard to. It was a long tough tournament and I’m so proud of the boys and staff for getting to the final."
The striker also acknowledged that the team fell short of their target, but vowed to pick themselves up and be ready to fight again in an England shirt. "Ultimately we fell short of our target and will have to live with that but as we always do we will pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down and be ready to fight again in an England shirt," he wrote.
Kane also thanked the fans for their support throughout the tournament, saying: "Thank you to all the fans that believed in us and supported us to the very end!"
This defeat marks a significant setback for the England team, who were looking to make history by becoming the first team to win back-to-back European Championships. However, it’s clear that Kane and the team are already looking to the future and planning their next move.
What’s Next for England?
With the European Championship final defeat, England’s focus will now shift to the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. The team will need to regroup and recharge ahead of the new campaign, which is set to kick off in the fall.
It’s unclear at this stage what changes the team will make to their squad or tactics, but one thing is certain – they will need to bounce back from this disappointment if they want to achieve their goals.
