Arsenal Eye Move for Gomes Rodriguez and Marc Guehi This Summer
Arsenal are showing interest in signing 16-year-old Southampton starlet Alejandro Gomes Rodriguez, according to reports. The young attacker has been impressing for his current club, and the Gunners see him as a potential future star.
Benfica are also eyeing Rodriguez, but Arsenal may have the upper hand in the transfer battle. This summer, the Gunners have been looking to sign the youngest and brightest talents, and Rodriguez fits the bill. Arteta will not throw the youngster in the deep end, but instead, he will be signed with the future in mind.
The situation at centre-forward looks bleak for Arsenal, with neither Eddie Nketiah nor Gabriel Jesus providing a reliable source of goals. A new striker is needed to replace the departed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Rodriguez could be the answer.
Meanwhile, Arteta is also on the lookout for reinforcements in the backline. Reports have suggested that the Gunners are now on “high alert” over a potential move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. The 23-year-old is a formidable figure in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad, and he could be the next name leaving Selhurst Park.
In terms of stats, Guehi has impressed in his 2023-24 Premier League campaign, averaging 1.3 tackles and 0.9 interceptions per game. He also won 2.2 aerials per game, which is impressive for a defender. His overall rating is a 6.99, which is one of the highest in the league.
Guehi is also attracting interest from Manchester United, and with just two years left on his current contract, Oliver Glasner may choose to cash in on his skipper. The 15-cap England international would bring experience aplenty to the north Londoners.
In comparison, William Saliba has had an impressive season, with an overall rating of 6.85. He has averaged 1.9 tackles and 0.8 interceptions per game, and has won 2 aerials per game. Gabriel Jesus, on the other hand, has struggled, with an overall rating of 6.55. He has averaged 0.7 tackles and 0.5 interceptions per game, and has won 0.9 aerials per game.
