Government scraps drone pilot license requirement

The Ministry of Civil Aviation on Friday removed the drone pilot license requirement to operate drones in the country. The Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) issued by a DGCA-approved drone school through the single-window DigitalSky Platform will be enough to operate a drone in India, according to an official. The official also said that a remote pilot certificate will not be required to operate a drone up to 2kg for non-commercial purposes.

A notification that modifies Buzz The ministry has issued rules and the requirement for a drone pilot license has been abolished as of February 11.

The latest move comes days after the government banned drone import with certain exceptions as part of efforts to promote domestic drone manufacturing in the country.

The ministry presented liberalized drone rules in August 2021.

Following the rules, the ministry issued the drone airspace map and product-linked incentives (PLI) scheme in September 2021, the UTM policy framework in October 2021. In addition, last month the drone certification scheme and the DigitalSky one-stop-shop platform.
