An Argentinian sports journalist has suggested she had an affair with Lionel Messi.
Journalist Sophie Martínez has spoken about the pain that the “ridiculous” rumors have caused her and her family.
Martínez is a top presenter and reporter in Argentina where he has gained attention for his work with ESPN and TV Pública.
He has worked at other top sporting events including the Olympics, Formula One and the Champions League.
And his time covering the Argentina national team has meant he has had the opportunity to interview Lionel Messi on several occasions.
However, these are purely professional meetings which have sparked romance rumors despite Messi’s seven-year marriage to his childhood sweetheart Antonella Roccuzzo, 36.
Fan speculation hinged on “flirtatious glances” between the pair, starting rumors that there was more than a professional relationship between Martínez and Messi.

It is believed that the pair started dating in 2007, while they have been good friends since they first met in childhood.
