after the FC Barcelona’s spectacular 5-1 win against Real Betis Gavi, one of the standout performers in the Copa del Rey, spoke to the press about his teammates and the team’s recent form.
The young midfielder shone alongside Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Dani Olmo on Wednesday night, with Dani Olmo playing as a false nine.
Gavi got his name on the scoresheet against his boyhood club with a left-footed finish inside the area early in the game.
La Masia Gem’s performance reassured fans that he is returning to his pre-injury form, which is a big boost for Barcelona after missing a year due to a cruciate ligament injury, which also affected his meniscus .
Speaking to the media, Gavi praised Lamine Yamal and described him as the best in the world after Barcelona legend Lionel Messi.
“For me, he is the best in the world, only after Messi,” Gavi commented.
“Lamine is very talented, the best at the moment. But it is foolish to compare him with Messi because there can only be one Messi. He is unique, like there will only be one Xavi, Iniesta or Busquets. We have to make our own way.” He added.
The midfielder also addressed rumors regarding Ronald Araujo’s possible departure from the club, ruling out a January exit.
“Barça fans should remain calm,” Gavi said. “Many journalists make things up, but Araújo is unstoppable. Many things are reported in the press, but many of them are false. I have always been confident that Ronald will stay,” He said firmly.
The midfielder also reflected on the team’s recent decline in form and attributed it more to a lack of results than poor gameplay.
“We played very well today, just like we needed to,” he claimed.
“In our recent losses, we didn’t deserve the results, but the ball didn’t go in. I don’t think the drop was due to our gameplay, but due to lack of goals. We deserved to win every match where we lost points.
When Gavi was asked about his favorite position on the pitch, he left it up to the coach: “I can play in different positions, but it’s the manager’s decision.”
