Gary Neville launches into astonishing rant during Wolves vs Liverpool as he says ‘I can’t watch this’

Gary Neville Loses It as Wolves’ Tame Tactics Leave Him Frustrated

Gary Neville was left fuming during Wolves’ 2-1 loss to Liverpool, admitting he couldn’t watch the game anymore due to the team’s risk-free approach.

The former Manchester United defender was on commentary duty for Sky Sports when he launched into a scathing rant about Wolves’ tactics. With the clock ticking down, Neville was frustrated by the team’s lack of ambition, particularly in the second half.

"It’s so frustrating," Neville said. "I can’t watch this. You can’t kid football fans – they know exactly what’s going on here. You’ve got to have another idea to try and do something different. I’m not talking about wellying it long or long balls. We always blame it on Pep [teams playing similarly to City], but his players can do it."

Neville’s criticism wasn’t just aimed at Wolves, however. He believes that many teams in the Premier League are adopting a similar approach, and it’s affecting the quality of the game.

"We’re now watching teams at the lower end of the table playing six passes between the centre-back and the goalkeeper, needing a goal with four minutes to go, and I can’t accept that," Neville said. "It’s not just a criticism of Wolves, there’s plenty of teams doing it. This has got to stop."

So, what’s the solution? Neville believes that teams need to focus on getting the ball into the feet of their most talented players as quickly as possible, with accuracy.

"That’s not what we’ve seen here or many of the games this season," Neville said. "The job really is to get the ball with quality into your striker’s feet as quickly as possible. That is the aim of football, and from that you can go and play."

The Premier League needs to find a way to make the game more exciting and unpredictable. As Neville so eloquently put it, "A lot of teams have forgotten that is the essence of football."
