Gary Lineker Slams "Totally Ridiculous" Story About Jermaine Jenas’ Sacking
Gary Lineker has spoken out about the recent sacking of Jermaine Jenas from the BBC, calling a story about his involvement in the decision "totally ridiculous".
Jenas was let go from his role at the BBC following an internal investigation into his workplace conduct. The former Premier League midfielder, who presented The One Show and regularly appeared on Match of the Day, was relieved of his duties after claims he acted inappropriately with several female colleagues.
Lineker, who has been hosting Match of the Day for 25 years, has been vocal about the sacking, saying that Jenas’ dismissal was "a shame" and that he was a "good guy". However, he has also denied a story that claimed he was involved in the decision to axe Jenas, calling it "absurd".
The Story That Got Away
The story in question claimed that Lineker had taken a "real interest" in Jenas’ situation and was even considering replacing him on Match of the Day. However, Lineker has categorically denied this, saying that the story was "so absurd" that he wouldn’t take it seriously.
"It was a front-page story, and it was saying that I’d taken a real interest in this story because possibly Jermaine might take my place," Lineker said. "It was so absurd, and I think it’s so absurd that you wouldn’t take it seriously."
The Future of Match of the Day
Lineker’s future with the BBC remains uncertain, with some speculating that he may be replaced by Jenas or another presenter. However, Lineker has yet to comment on his future plans, and it’s unclear what the BBC has in store for him.
