Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards all have a different choice to replace Gareth Southgate as England manager

England’s Next Manager: Lineker, Shearer, and Richards Weigh In

Gareth Southgate’s resignation as England manager has sent shockwaves through the football world, and now, three former England stars – Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, and Micah Richards – have given their takes on who should replace him.

In a recent podcast appearance, Lineker advocated for former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, saying, "Wouldn’t you go all out for Jurgen Klopp?" Lineker believes Klopp’s experience and success in the Premier League would make him an excellent choice for the England job.

Richards, on the other hand, went one step further, suggesting that Pep Guardiola could be the ideal candidate. "I’d go one bigger – Pep. Why not?" Richards said. While it may seem far-fetched, both Lineker and Richards acknowledge that Guardiola’s dedication to his work is unmatched.

However, Shearer has other ideas. The former England captain believes Eddie Howe, currently in charge of Newcastle, should be the top candidate. "I’m for England and English managers. Howe would be the outstanding candidate," Shearer said. With Newcastle’s recent takeover, Shearer suggests that Howe’s current situation could make him an attractive option for the FA.

But what about Lee Carsley, the England Under-21 boss? He’s another name that has been thrown into the mix. Carsley’s success with the young Lions has led many to believe he could be a suitable candidate for the senior role.

While opinions are divided, one thing is clear: the FA has a tough decision ahead of them. With an interim solution in place for upcoming matches against the Republic of Ireland and Finland, they’ll need to move quickly to find a permanent replacement.
