Gareth Bale snubs Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane when asked to name his greatest-ever teammate

Gareth Bale played alongside some of the all-time greats during his trophy-laden career, but one player in particular stands out from the rest.

The former Wales international, who won three La Liga titles and five Champions League titles during his tenure with Real Madrid, shared the Bernabeu dressing room with five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo will, of course, go down as one of the greatest players of all time, scoring 451 times in 438 competitive appearances for Los Blancos, an average of more than a goal per game.

When Bale was competing in the Premier League with Spurs, he also played alongside Luka Modric and Harry Kane, but it is a fellow countryman who he considers his greatest ever teammate.

Speaking in 2016, he described former Manchester United and Wales winger Ryan Giggs as the greatest.

“For me, the greatest player ever is Ryan Giggs,” Bale told Foot Locker. “He was my hero growing up and is a legend in world football. It also helps to have him be a fellow Welshman.”

The pair played three international games together in 2007, which was seen as a transitional period for the Welsh national team.

Giggs managed Bale during his short tenure as Wales manager.

Back in 2018 – after Bale scored for Real Madrid in their win over Liverpool in the Champions League final – he also described Bale as the greatest Welsh player of all time.

“He is the greatest [Welsh player] I saw that,” Giggs said. “I didn’t see John Charles and a lot of other guys playing at that time.”

On the subject of Bale, a former Real Madrid doctor said he was the best athlete ever compared to Cristiano Ronaldo.
