Roy Keane: Not the Tough Guy He Makes Himself Out to Be?
In a bold claim that has left fans and fellow footballers stunned, Harry Redknapp, the former Premier League manager, has stated that Roy Keane, the legendary Manchester United captain, is not as tough as he appears to be.
Redknapp, known for his no-nonsense approach, made the claim during a recent appearance on the popular YouTube channel, Soccer PM. When asked which former Premier League players he could beat in a fight, Redknapp surprisingly put Keane in his crosshairs, saying: "I don’t think Roy Keane is as tough as he makes out. It’s all bravado. I love Roy Keane, but I wouldn’t mind fighting him, actually."
This bold declaration has raised eyebrows, considering Keane’s reputation as one of football’s last "hard men." Throughout his playing career, Keane was infamous for his brutal tackles, fierce competitiveness, and infamous temper. Since retiring from the pitch, he has carried this no-nonsense attitude into the world of punditry, consistently delivering fiery analysis and sparking heated debates.
Redknapp, 77, has also taken aim at other former footballers he believes he could beat in a fight. He reckons he could take on Michael Owen, Gareth Southgate, and Shaun Wright-Phillips, claiming: "I love those lads, but I think I could take them down." When asked about Paul Scholes, he said he wouldn’t want to fight him, instead praising his former Manchester United teammate: "What a footballer."
This heated exchange follows Alan Shearer’s recent downplaying of a potential boxing match against Keane. The former Newcastle and England striker was involved in several high-profile incidents with Keane during their playing days, but ultimately opted against a grudge match.
